Isaiah 1:2 "Hear, O
heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and
brought up children, and they have rebelled against me."
Teaching kids to cook is a
messy business. Cooking is messy enough, but when we add little ones trying to
learn, it can seem like it’s not worth the effort.
But when kids learn to
cook, it helps to empower them. They’re learning survival skills and we’re
passing our experience and the wisdom we learned from those who taught us on to
them.
It also teaches them math
and science: if we want to double a recipe, how much sugar do we need to double
the three-quarter cup on the original recipe, or what happens when we add two
tablespoons of vinegar to the two teaspoons of baking soda we already added to
the bowl? That way, kids get to eat their math and science lessons and makes
learning practical as well as fun.
