Comfort Food

Read Song of Solomon 1-4

Song of Solomon 2:5 "Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love."

When looking for comfort food, most of us don’t reach for an apple. Apple pie, apple cake—yes, and a plain apple sounds healthy, but not very comforting.

Sweets, especially chocolate, are more likely to comfort us when we’ve had a rough time. Salty snacks, mashed potatoes with gravy, even macaroni and cheese are other foods we are likely to reach for.

Unfortunately these foods also sabotage our diets. We feel bad enough with our emotional turmoil—we won’t want to add gaining weight to our problems. So we might want to stick with that plain apple, after all.
