Lending Food

Read Luke 10-12

Luke 11:5 "And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;"

I had a neighbor who kept borrowing flour from me every week or so. No matter how much I gave her, she couldn’t seem to plan her needs ahead of time and kept borrowing from me.

It worked when I had it to spare, but other times it meant I ran out of flour myself and had to get more. We can understand a person’s reluctance to lend loaves to his friend—especially when he called in the middle of the night.

But it’s a blessing to be in the position of having plenty so we can lend food to someone who asks us. Lending is like giving food away, since we are unlikely to be repaid for the food we lend.
