How to Think About Something Besides Food

Read Isaiah 25-27

Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

When we’re dieting, it’s easy to keep focused on food—what we can eat, when we’ll eat next, what is still left on our daily food portion, and even nostalgia over what we no longer include in our diets. The trouble is, for those of us with weight problems, thinking about food makes us want to eat, whether or not we are hungry.

But God has given us a way to escape this trap. We can keep our minds on the Lord and He will give us perfect peace.

We already have our food lists and have planned our meals, and we don’t have to think about food all the time. So we can keep our minds on the Lord by repeating to ourselves scripture we have already memorized, by memorizing new scriptures, by quizzing ourselves on what reference goes with what verses we are familiar with, by singing hymns and other spiritual songs to ourselves, even by changing the point of view of the hymns we know (changing Thee to Lord or changing our to mine)—whatever it takes for us to keep our minds on God.
